85% Without Power: During Winter Storm Fern, Delta Interfaith Keeps East Carroll Neighbors Safe

With tens of thousands left in the dark across Northern Louisiana, Delta Interfaith and Together Louisiana swiftly mobilized to keep their neighbors safe.

On Monday, Jan. 26th, two days after the storm hit, leaders contacted residents across the parish to assess urgent needs, coordinate with emergency partners, and launch a phone bank with teams from Shreveport.

By Tuesday, Delta Interfaith, Together Louisiana, and allies delivered portable batteries to vulnerable residents in Lake Providence, including those relying on medical devices – while warming centers were being established.

On Wednesday, Jan. 28th, Delta Interfaith opened TWO warming centers at Grace Episcopal Church and Together for Hope House where local residents could warm up, enjoy a meal, and charge their phones.

"It is heartwarming to know that the community still knows how to come together, stick together, help and assist one another,"

said Delta Interfaith Leader Wanda Manning.

As 85% of East Carroll Parish residents remain without access to power, and water and sewage issues persist, the work is far from finished. Leaders continue to deliver food and water, share information about warming centers, and check in on their neighbors, while gathering information to guide the next phase of response.
