The Spokane Alliance ...has worked with 50 local businesses and three city council members to craft the "Paid Sick and Safe Leave" policy which members hope can be presented for a vote later this year."
Under the proposed plan, employees would be able to use paid sick days for either their own or family members' illness, injury or preventative care. Says ice cream shop owner Jennifer Davis, "If people have paid sick leave, I think they will take better care of themselves. They're going to want to do a better job for me if they are offered this sense of security."
