Working Together Jackson Wins 1st Housing Trust Fund in MS

Mississippi was one of only three states in the country without a housing trust fund. 'Working Together Jackson' changed that.

Leaders commanded the attention of city councilmembers with the demand that the City of Jackson create a housing trust fund to finance the development of low and moderate income housing. Said WTJ leader Phil Edie:

"If we are going to be serious about the housing issue...we're going to have to find the sources of funds and find ways to solve the problem."

The Council unanimously voted to support the proposal and Mayor Yarber committed to applying for federal dollars through HUD. Working Together Jackson committed to presenting additional funding ideas to the Mayor and Council within the following weeks.
